Thrones of Gold marks the debut of Darrin James as a singer/songwriter. Since its limited release only months ago, Thrones of Gold has yielded glowing reviews on both sides of the Atlantic. Jon Sobel, form Blog Critics, declares it "one of the best indie productions of the year so far." Time Out NY has recommended his live performances, praising his "gruff soulfulness..vaudevillian menace..ramshackle charm..and perceptive lyrics." Darrin's unique blend of honest lyrics, gritty guitar, and gravelly vocals have won over the critics, drawing immediate and obvious comparisons to acclaimed songwriters such as Springsteen, Waits, Dylan, and Leonard Cohen.

Based in Brooklyn, Darrin James has assembled a stellar lineup of some of New York's most exciting young musicians. Jordan Shapiro (Project/Object, Astrograss) plays a Hammond organ, providing a textured backdrop that opens up the space for Darrin's rhythmic finger picking and bluesy lead guitar. Longtime drummer, Jeremy Bronson anchors the band with a dynamic style that contributes to their loose intensity. By incorporating both upright and electric bass, they are able to cross over effortlessly from rock to country and jazz where guest musicians like Colin Stetson (Tom Waits, Arcade Fire) provide beautifully dirty sax and Dennis Lichtman lights up the fiddle. The Darrin James Band plays regularly around New York City, exciting audiences with their soulful performances, and they are planning extensive touring in 2007.
